The Liver Transplant Surgical Procedure
The transplant surgeon makes a curved-shaped incision on the upper part of the abdomen. The old liver is removed. Major blood vessels and the bile ducts are left in place. The new liver attached to the vessels and bile ducts. A tube is inserted into the bile duct to drain bile. The area is stitched closed.

Liver transplant surgery usually takes several hours to complete.
