Health Effects of Cigarette Smoking

Did You Know???

  • The number of Americans who die from tobacco related diseases each year is equivalent to three 747 airliners crashing every day, 365 days per year.
  • Nearly all current smokers began smoking before they were 21 years old
  • Every day, over 3000 new smokers become addicted to nicotine; 1000 of them will loose their gamble with tobacco related diseases.
  • Children of smokers are far more likely to smoke themselves than their counterparts, and are at higher risk of respiratory infections and asthma.

BUT…
Kicking the nicotine habit is possible. Even though nicotine is one of the most powerfully addictive substances known to man, the appropriate combination of medications and behavioral modification can help you overcome this problem.

It’s interesting to note that 50% of smokers try to quit every year… but less than 5% will be successful on their own. Even with physician help and over-the-counter medications, the best you could expect is about 15% success. In general, the more intensive the strategy used to help you quit, the more successful you will be… and the more cost-effective your cessation attempt becomes.
